C.A.L.M. will mark the 20th anniversary of Hurricane Hugo’s landfall on Charleston and the Lowcountry with a special panel session. This will be held on Monday, September 21st, 5:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m., at the Charleston County Public Library Auditorium (Main Branch), 68 Calhoun Street.
To commemorate this pivotal event in the history of our city, C.A.L.M. is featuring, in lieu of its regular September meeting, a panel of selected persons who were present when the storm hit and/or were involved with restoration initiatives in the aftermath. The speakers will perhaps be able to offer some valuable insight on disaster preparedness. Speakers include Nicholas Butler, Ph.D., Director, The Charleston Archive; Charles Duell, President and CEO, Middleton Place Foundation; Cathy S. Haynes, Director, Charleston County Emergency Preparedness Division; and Angela D. Mack, Executive Director and Chief Curator, Gibbes Museum of Art.
We encourage anyone interested in cultural and historical institutions experiences of Hurricane Hugo to join us on September 21st. The meeting is being offered at no charge. For more information about this event contact Brooke Fox, C.A.L.M. President, 843-792-6477 or foxeb@musc.edu.
